No need to get too excited yet, however the Arizona Diamondbacks are 2-0 to start spring training.
They started with a 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday and then defeated the Cleveland Indians 15-9 today in Goodyear.
Doug Davis is off to a stellar start. He came in today and pitched 1.1 innings and gave up 6 runs (5 earned) on 6 hits, facing only 12 batters. Whoa! I realize it’s early, but if it’s going to be that way, maybe he should come up with another disease to start this season and make another emotional comeback with.
I couldn’t be happier that Davis is cancer free don’t get me wrong. What he went through last season was courageous and he should be commended for his efforts to get back to the team. He was truly an inspiration, but at what point does he become a liability? I know the Dbacks will give him every chance with really no other options out there for a third starter right now. If he continues outings like this though, the Dbacks may have no other option but to release him. Still 38 days of spring left, so a lot still to be decided.
The Dbacks are back in Tucson on Friday to face the Chicago White Sox.
