Just Another Day in Paradise

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

If you consider the Diamondbacks 18th spring loss against only 11 wins paradise, well then you found it.  The Diamondbacks found another way to lose today.  Yuesmiero Petit gave up 4 runs in the first inning and that’s all the Colorado Rockies would need to beat up on the Dbacks 10-3 on Monday.
The pitching is now getting downright scary.  Unless there is drastic change in the way this team goes about business, even 18 out of the first 21 games at home may not save this team from 3rd place.  I say 3rd because let’s be honest, the Padres have [...]

Last Week of Spring Training

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Spring Training | COMMENTS: None Yet

I, for one, can not wait for spring training to end.  Or can I?  If the Diamondbacks pitching and defense is any indication, I might want them to stay in training for at least another six weeks.  Then again, why would we want to waste people’s time?
It is becoming clearer and clearer that the Dbacks still have a lot of work to do.  They continue to commit too many errors and their team ERA is amongst the highest in baseball.  I realize this is spring training, however it has to give you some kind of indication of what to expect.  [...]

Destined for Mediocrity

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, Spring Training | COMMENTS: None Yet

I sure hope that doesn’t ring true.  However, by the end of the 2009 season, don’t be surprised that the Diamondbacks are right around .500.
It seems every time the sports news comes on lately, the Dbacks are getting blown out.  Sure it’s only spring training and the records mean nothing.  However it does provide a glimpse into what may be expected come April 6th going forward.
Over the past week, the Dbacks are 2-4 and have scored 39 runs and have had 39 runs scored against them.  They’ve have victories of 11-3 and 14-6, but losses of 10-7, 6-1, 6-3, and [...]

Byrnes Continues the Wait

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

The way the Dbacks have been playing in Spring Training so far, they might need some extra help, maybe from an energizer, such as Eric Byrnes?  Well, hold those thoughts.  Byrnes, who is coming off an injury plagued 2008 season has yet to make his spring debut.
Hamstring injuries are a tricky thing.  Plus you don’t want to see him come back too soon, especially in an exhibition game where the results mean nothing more than to the individual.  So the Dbacks plan on holding out Byrnes at least until the end of the week and then go from there.
I personally [...]

Gonzo in the Fold?

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

Before you get all too excited, rumors are that former Arizona Diamondback Luis Gonzalez is talking to the team about an off the field role with his former team.
When I first heard he was talking with Dbacks Team President Derrick Hall, I was pretty excited, although rumors had flown around Gonzo was looking to finish his on the field career with the Dbacks a couple of months back.
Either way, it is nice to see both sides reaching out to each other after the way things had ended in 2006.  I look forward to hearing more in the coming days.

Dbacks Win Monday, Lose Tuesday

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Spring Training | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Arizona Diamondbacks had a good time in Mesa on Monday, defeating the Chicago Cubs 9-1.  Today they got to face their former teammate Randy Johnson, in Scottsdale, against the San Francisco Giants.  The Big Unit struck out seven batters en route to a 7-6 victory.
Starting pitcher Doug Davis took care of every batter he faced on Tuesday, although he revealed he’s been dealing with an arm condition for about 5 years and has been on medication since.  Hmmm, ok.  Why are we finding out about this now?  Although, it must not be too serious or we’d have already know [...]

Dbacks Head Into Game With A’s 2-2

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Spring Training | COMMENTS: None Yet

Yusmeiro Petit will take the mound today as the Arizona Diamondbacks face the Oakland A’s down in Tucson.
On Saturday, the Diamondbacks fell to the Texas Rangers 6-4.  Mark Reynold had a double and walk and Chris Roberson hit a late home run in his push to make the 25 man roster.
The Dbacks are right about where I thought they would be at this point, at .500.  Get used to it.  Spring Training or not, this team will probably hover around .500 all season unless someone breaks out both on the mound an at the plate.
After tightness in his throwing arm [...]
