Diamondbacks Rebound to Defeat the Dodgers 9-4

The Arizona Diamondbacks offense was back in action Friday night after taking a couple of days off and defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-4.  Dodgers starter James McDonald cruised through the first two innings before he became the wild thing in the third inning.  Walking three batters and throwing in a hit batsman in the middle of it all after a solo home run by Chris Young spelled the end of the night for McDonald in a five run fifth.

That was just enough for Dbacks starter Jon Garland, making his regular season debut with the Dbacks.  Garland gave the bullpen a rest, going seven strong innings and giving up just three runs on five hits.

The story tonight though was the patience of the Dbacks hitters.  They were willing to take balls and swing only mostly at strikes.  After Thursday’s dismal performance, it was a welcome sight.

Player of the game: Chris Young.  Young had the HR, a double, a single, and a walk.  Solid game.  Honorable mention is Eric Byrnes.  He showed some of the best patience I’ve seen from him at the plate in a long time.

It was over when: McDonald couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat in the third inning.  He lost sight of the strike zone and the Dbacks made him pay for it.  Walks will kill you all the time.
