The Arizona Diamondbacks have found a little offense over the past couple of days. Too bad for them, the pitching continues to remain terrible with a few exceptions. After last night’s heroics by Eric Byrnes in the 10th inning to defeat St. Louis 7-6, there would be no such joy today as St. Louis defeated Arizona 12-7. At one time St. Louis led 6-0 and Arizona at one point had closed the gap to 7-5, however the bullpen could not hold the powerful Cards offense and could not keep the game close.
Jon Garland (1-1) must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. The difference between his performance today and last Friday against Los Angeles was like night and day. Garland gave up 7 runs, all earned, on 7 hits and 5 walks in only 3 2/3 innings. That is disappointing to say the least.
The Dbacks ended the homestand 3-6, losing two of three in each of the three series. They take their wrecking crew on the road this weekend to San Francisco for a quick 3 game trip and return to Chase Field next week for another 9 game homestand which will include a return trip by the Colorado Rockies and the only trip to Chase Field this season for the Chicago Cubs.
Maybe getting on the road will get things jum started for both sides of the ball…..awww, who am I kidding. Really, I was just kidding. I think.
Player of the game: St. Louis offense
