Well, at least they aren’t giving up. At least it doesn’t look that way right now.
The Arizona Diamondbacks took three of four from the Pittsburgh Pirates this weekend, shutting them out each of the past two days. Today that took it to the Pirates, beating them handily 9-0. After winning 11-3 on Thursday, then taking on on the chin 10-3 on Friday, they started the shutout string with a 7-0 win last night. This was the first consecutive shutouts for the Dbacks in 14 months.
Besides the offense, which produced 14 hits today, eight of them for extra bases, starting pitcher Max Scherzer easily had his best game as a pro. He kept his pitch count under control and gave up only five hits in seven innings, striking out eight. Beautiful.
How the rest of this season shapes out is still to be seen. The Dbacks are out of it however it remains to be seen if they are going to be dealing away to help others, namely Jon Garland and Doug Davis. Scherzer has clearly shown he is part of the bright future of this team.
This week should be interesting.
