No thanks to any help from home plate umpire Dana Demuth, Yusmeiro Petit had his no-no broken up in the 8th by Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Ronny Cedeno.
Demuth failed to call strike three to the first batter of the inning, second baseman Ramon Vazquez. It was right at the knees. It was borderline, however most umps will give a pitcher the benefit on a pitch like that right down the middle of the plate. Petit received no such benefit.
He is gassed, so this may be his last inning. Stay tuned.
