Dbacks Start Final Week of Season

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Dbacks have finished out their home portion of the 2009 schedule.  Now they finish out the season with six games on the road, three at the San Francisco Giants and three at the Chicago Cubs this weekend.  All I can say is thank goodness.  It’s been a long season, a very long one.
Doug Davis will take the mound tonight.  As we know not much has gone right with the Dbacks this season.  Many of us have already forgotten they are still playing.  With football in full swing, the Dbacks have taken the back burner on the news for several [...]

Last Home Series Upcoming Against Padres

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Arizona Diamondbacks began the season by playing 18 of their first 21 games at home in April.  They will finish their home schedule this weekend as they host the San Diego Padres.  Home or away though, this team has been horrible.  You would think the confines of Chase Field would be friendly.  Not so, in fact early on it looked like the road is where the Dbacks preferred to be.
If you want one last chance to watch sub-par baseball, this is your chance.  At least it’s fandemoneum weekend.  Oh boy.  You’ll have a 1 in 35,000 chance of winning [...]

Rockies Take Care of Business, Win 2 of 3

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, Gameday, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Arizona Diamondbacks are almost an after thought these days.  The way they are playing, they should be thankful they are garnering any thoughts, even from yours truly.
Once again, a superior opponent, the NL Wild Card leaders in the Colorado Rockies, came to town and took care of their business, winning today 5-1 after winning last night 10-4, maintaining their wild-card lead.  Today, the victim was Dan Haren.  He fell to 14-9 and his ERA jumped to 2.90.  Definitely one disappointment among several today.
Other disappointments:

Mark Reynolds saw his average drop to .266.  He had reached the .280’s at one point.

2010 Schedule Is Out

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

The 2010 Arizona Diamondbacks schedule is out.  At least it gives us something to look forward to, although I’m not sure the gauntlet of Detroit, Boston, New York, and Tampa Bay is what you wanted to see.  Of those four, only New York is at Chase Field.  All the others from that group are on the road.
The schedule:

The 1st Diamondback “Snakes” Awards

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, off topic | COMMENTS: None Yet

I figured I should do something interesting to generate at least some interest in a team that clearly has very little interest in finishing on a strong note in 2009.    So, I present to you, yes with just under three weeks still remaining, the 2009 “Snakes”.  I get to make the categories.  You can agree or disagree.
Rookie of the Year:
Gerardo Parra – clear winner here.  He hit a home run in his first at bat against Cincinnati in May and has hovered around .300 all season.  Look for even better things in 2010.  Wait, didn’t we say that about Chris [...]

Dbacks Call it in Again, Get Swept by Brewers

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, Gameday | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Arizona Diamondbacks pretty much called it a season during this home stand, going 1-5, culminating in a 3 game sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers.  Today they lost 5-3 after nursing a 7th inning 2-1 lead.  With Friday and Saturday’s game less than competitive on the Dbacks part, it looked like they might finish the series on a high note.  Not so much.
Right now, it just appears everyone in the Dbacks organization is trying to get to October 4th as quickly as possible and I don’t blame them – much.  However they still have paying fans coming [...]

Dbacks Lose 6th Straight

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, Gameday | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Arizona Diamondbacks lost their sixth straight tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4, blowing a 4-1 8th inning lead.  That unfortunately is not new territory for the Dbacks.  This team has pretty much given up.  The entire bullpen needs to be replaced in 2010.  The offense is too talented to be so poor in clutch situations.  Anyway, enough said.  The further we head towards season’s end, the more teams the Dbacks eliminate as worse than they are.

Not Much Spoiling Going On

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The Arizona Diamondbacks had been playing well over the past couple of weeks until they hit yet another roadblock this week – two good teams.  The Diamondbacks have fallen flat on this 7 game road trip, so far going 2-4 after back to back losses in Colorado to the Rockies.
I’m not sure what it is.  Is it the good teams?  Is it the Dbacks have given up?  I don’t think that’s what it is, although it does seem like they are just going through the motions these days.  Last night, starter Doug Davis gave up a couple of runs early [...]

Dbacks Finish LA With Series Split 2-2

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Breaking News, Diamondbacks, Fanzone, Gameday | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Arizona Diamondbacks looked like a team that could complete a sweep at times in the series just completed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and at times, and most of tonight, the Dbacks appeared to be just going through the motions once again.  They leave LA with a split.  It’s better than nothing, but it could have been so much better.
Recently traded Jon Garland won the battle with Billy Buckner.  Buckner was called up to start in place of Garland, who was traded on Monday from the Dbacks to the Dodgers.  My only question is, when does the Buckner experiment [...]

Dbacks Ditching MLB Talent for Minor Leaguers

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

The purge continues.
Last night the Arizona Diamondbacks traded starter Jon Garland to the Los Angeles Dodgers, while they were playing – the Los Angeles Dodgers.  He didn’t have to walk far, going from one clubhouse to the other.
I love how the Dbacks have just given up on this season, and I’m not just talking about the players.  The moves the Dbacks have made this season has been mind bottling.  Yeah, I said mind bottling.
They traded Tony Pena. Two months too late.
They waived Tony Clark. Three months too late.
They sent Chris Young to the minors.  That should have been done in [...]
