Mark Reynolds.
That’s all you need to know about third base when it comes to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Reynolds, who has a knack for making the spectacular plays, has the chance to turn himself into a superstar at the hot corner. A couple of things though have dogged Reynolds over his first few seasons. Although he makes spectacular plays, it’s the routine ones that still had a hard time being completed successfully on a consistent basis. I expect things to change defensively from Reynolds this season. Now going into his fourth season, Reynolds hasn’t been helped from the switches from third [...]

The Arizona Diamondbacks finally announced that single game tickets for the upcoming season will go on sale next Saturday March 6th.
Highlights:
Friday night games are fireworks night. This is promotion the Dbacks started last season in conjunction with Gila River Casinos. Maybe the best idea they had all season. It’s great for the family.
The St. Louis Cardinals and The Philadelphia Phillies both come in April. The New York Yankees and the Cardinals make a return engagement as well in June.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are here for Fourth of July. Then the Chicago Cubs come in the next series.
Several bobblehead opportunities this [...]
The Arizona Diamondbacks starting rotation is pretty much set from spots 1-4. It’s that dreaded fifth spot that continues to be a dog for this franchise. Last year, several pitchers gave it a go with only limited success.
This year the rotation includes:
1. Dan Haren
Haren is a solid pitcher the first half of the season. It’s everything that happens from mid-July till the end of the season that continues to separate Haren from good and great. Last season Haren looked like Cy Young up until the All-Star break. After that he looked more like Chris Young. Haren has been tagged as [...]
The march towards October has officially begun.
Amid scattered showers and cool weather, the Arizona Diamondbacks officially opened their 2010 spring training in Tucson this weekend. What’s the saying, neither rain nor sleet, nor snow….something like that. I like what I am seeing and hearing already.
It is clear the D’backs are ready to move past last season. When you have position players show up on the first day with pitchers and catchers, you know you have the right players on your roster. Already I like the attitude. Third baseman Mark Reynolds showed up on Saturday. He was the one who called [...]
The only person you need to know about when it comes to the Arizona Diamondbacks and the shortstop position is Stephen Drew. He is the incumbent and has no competition for the position. The position is his unless he just absolutely collapses.
I would like to see a little more consistent power and a higher batting average from Drew at the plate, but there is no doubt he is the right man defensively. Drew saw his average dip to .261 in 2009 and also saw a drop in home runs, dropping from 21 in 2008 to 12 in 2009. He did [...]
Just as it is with opening day, the day pitchers and catchers report is a special day for all baseball fans. This is the official start to erasing all the bad memories from season’s past and the race towards something new, starts.
The Arizona Diamondbacks pitchers and catchers report for their first workout today in Tucson. This is will be their last spring in Tucson before moving to new digs in Scottsdale next spring.
The pitching rotation seems to be set, at least for the first week. Yesterday, manager A.J. Hinch announced Dan Haren will be the opening day starter. Brandon Webb, [...]
One position the Arizona Diamondbacks did find some production in last year was second base. However, they still never saw the utmost potential that they were looking for. They started the 2009 season with Felipe Lopez, who right now unfortunately finds himself as a free agent. He was a guy who hit over .300 but really never consistently produced any tangible results for the Dbacks before they shipped him off last summer.
After Lopez left, it was a platoon situation with Ryan Roberts and Augie Ojeda. Augie didn’t quite produce the numbers he did in 2008 and Roberts really showed some [...]
Dbacks Fan Fest a Success
If the attendance at today’s Arizona Diamondbacks Fan Fest was any indication, fans certainly can not wait for the new season to start. Everyone is ready to put last year behind and start looking forward to the season that is about to be.
Held at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix, the Fest included activities for all ages. There were the bouncy houses and slides for the little ones, autographs and pictures for the older kids and adults, along with clubhouse tours, whiffle ball fields, and much more. Five concessions were available for fans to eat and even organist Bobby Freeman was [...]

The 2009 season for the Arizona Diamondbacks was anything but something to write home about. The first base position was no exception. In 2009, it was a position that was shared by a few players. Tony Clark had a crack, he failed to produce offensively and even made some really bad defensive pplays that cost the Dbacks some games. Conor Jackson only played 30 games before falling ill to Valley Fever. Mark Reynolds had to be converted over from third base to share the position with now former Dback Chad Tracy.
Going into 2010, it appears to be a different story. The arrival [...]
