Dbacks Starting Rotation is Set

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, News, Spring Training | COMMENTS: None Yet

There is no Brandon Webb.  No Randy Johnson.  However, the Arizona Diamondbacks do have four other guys who are going to fill out the top four spots in the 2010 starting rotation.
The number one without a doubt is Dan Haren.  Even before Webb was ruled out for the month of April, Haren was touted as the number one and opening day starter.  I’m not so worried about his results in April, although he did have some bumps in March, however I am more worried about how he is going to perform come July and later.  He’s the ace though, so [...]

Spring Quickly Coming to an End

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, Spring Training | COMMENTS: None Yet

As spring training closes out this week, what have we learned about the Arizona Diamondbacks?
Diamondbacks are having issues finding a solid starting rotation.  No one wants to step up for the fourth and fifth spots.  At least when Brandon Webb returns, wait never mind, I’m not holding my breath on that one.
Speaking of Webb, does anyone else think he’s pitched his last game for the Diamondbacks?
Power hitting shouldn’t be the problem.  The heart of the order is as strong as any in baseball with Justin Upton, Adam Laroche, and Mark Reynolds.
The bullpen could be a problem.  Then again, I think [...]

Let’s Go! The Dback Bullpen

AUTHOR: Reel Robinson | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, MLB | COMMENTS: None Yet

Pitching, pitching, and more pitching! I am a fan of great pitching I love to see sinkers, sliders, unhittable curve-balls, and the always exciting 100 mph fast-ball to complement those off-speed pitches. That is baseball, it is more than science, it is the blueprint of any championship team. That being said, with any great blueprint you have to have a strong foundation to hold it together. The Dback starting rotation over the spring has come along nicely, adding some new components like Ian Kennedy into the mix to help us compete in the NL West this year. As our rotation [...]

Getting to the Heart of the Order

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, Spring Training | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Much has been discussed about how the Arizona Diamondbacks starting lineup will look this season, particularly in the lead-off spot.  As important as that is, I see the 3-4-5 spots in the rotation the key to extending innings and creating big ones too.  Right now the projected 3-4-5 would be Justin Upton, Adam Laroche, and Mark Reynolds.  How’s that for power?  Power sure, but average?  We’ll see.  We also need to see consistency.  None of this take April off and get going in May.  Do that and you can write off any chances of staying with anyone else in the [...]

Kennedy Making Dbacks Look Smarter Everyday

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, Spring Training | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

When the Arizona Diamondbacks announced they were trading for Ian Kennedy, I will admit I was quite skeptical. This was a guy that the New York Yankees gave up faster than the idea of Roger Clemens bobblehead night at Yankee Stadium.  After injury the Yankees all but kicked this guy to the curb.  He had such hype early on, I thought he was going to be a guy the Yankees would hold onto for a long time.
Well, their loss is our gain.  After yesterday’s fantastic outing against the San Diego Padres, he solidifies everyone’s fears, if there were any, about [...]

YES!! Mark Reynolds

AUTHOR: Reel Robinson | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Diamondbacks have made some exciting signings this spring. Thursday March 18th they made another important front office decision in signing Mark Reynolds to a 3 year contract. Mark Reynolds the 26 year old 3rd baseman is another young asset that will help our team continue to build. Although, Reynolds has trouble with strikeouts and errors (24 in 2009) his ability to put the ball in play is spectacular and thats why the organization was willing to keep him around. The move at least shows that general manager Josh Byrnes is paying attention to who makes an impact on the field [...]

Call it a Case of March Madness

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Diamondbacks, Fanzone, Spring Training | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

When the Arizona Diamondbacks came out of the gates a week and a half ago, it seemed to be more of the status quo, a replay of the 2009 season.  No hitting, poor pitching, and bad luck.  Realizing it was only week one, certainly not anytime to have concern.  Then over the past four days, the Dbacks have been an offensive machine and have thrown in some quality pitching.  They are winning again today in a game against the Texas Rangers.
What you are seeing is the team’s penchant for power.  They’ve already gone yard a couple of times today, including [...]

Finally Some Consistency!!

AUTHOR: Reel Robinson | IN: Diamondbacks, MLB, Spring Training, Uncategorized | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Let’s be honest, who thought we were heading down the road we saw last year? I did! But yesterday we witnessed a glimpse of a team that has some cohunes or in polite terms resiliency. After their 3-2 lost to the Cleveland Indians on March 8th it is good to see the Diamondbacks bounce back with a victory.  Yesterday’s 10-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds has given me some hope that the Diamondbacks have enough talent to compete if they could just keep some consistency. The last two games the Dbacks have shown off some solid pitching that I hope [...]
