Justin Upton hit his second home run of the spring today to help the Arizona Diamondbacks defeat the Cincinnati Reds 10-4.
Sure seems like he is trying to make good on his newly signed contract. I just hope he can keep this up throughout the spring and well into the regular season. Clearly today was the Dbacks best overall effort since games began last Thursday. Pitcher Billy Buckner, while not blowing people away, was serviceable in helping the Dbacks to only their second victory of the short spring so far.
Still, it’s all too early to make anything of this team, even at 2-5. It was just nice to see the Dbacks put together a good hitting and pitching effort in the same game. Yesterday, when the pitching was there against the Cleveland Indians in a 3-2 loss, the offense took the day off. Even though it would be nice, even this early, I wouldn’t expect to see too much consistency of what we saw today. I think we’ll see more of this see-saw action from both sides until the team has a better idea of who they will break camp with and head back north to Phoenix to start the regular season on April 5th.
