Dbacks Go Yard Four Times En Route to Win

Welcome to the Arizona Diamondbacks Kelly Johnson.  The new Dbacks second baseman got his first hits of the season, including two home runs and three RBI, as the Dbacks defeated the San Diego Padres 5-3 at Chase Field

Dbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy made his Arizona debut tonight as well.  He gave up three runs on six hits in the no-decision.  He did strikeout eight batters, a very encouraging sign.  What was really encouraging though was four innings of solid bullpen.  Dbacks relievers only gave up one hit and one base on balls after Kennedy exited the game.  Hopefully that will keep up.

Also homering for the Dbacks Wednesday night was Chris Young and Justin Upton, who both got their first jacks of the season.  For Young, I couldn’t be happier.  He added a single as well and raised his early season average to .273.  I couldn’t be ahppier with the progress.  It is early, but like the bullpen, I hope this is a trend to continue.

Now it’s on to face the Pittsburgh Pirates, who are coming off back-to-back victories against the Los Angeles Dodgers.  They have another afternoon game tomorrow before heading west to play the Dbacks starting Friday night.  The Dbacks will be off tomorrow.
