Zach Duke. Remember the name.
The Pittsburgh Pirates starter, pushed up a day in order to face Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Dan Haren, had control of the game tonight from the get go, leading his team to a 6-3 victory. Duke was masterful. He had only allowed two hits into the seventh inning. Dbacks third baseman Mark Reynolds broke the shutout with a two-run homer.
Even as masterful as Duke was and how much Haren struggled, the Dbacks still had a shot to tie the game. The Dbacks managed to load the bases in the eighth inning with no one out. Unfortunately they were only able to push one run across.
It was a little surprising to see Haren struggle, however his lifetime ERA against the Pirates coming in to the game was 4.08. Haren had trouble spotting the ball and he never really fooled the Pirates, though he did strikeout six batters.
Tomorrow the Dbacks go for the series win. Edwin Jackson will get his second shot at getting his first Dbacks win.
