After a long off season and a spring training that displayed some solid Diamondback baseball at times. The season has started and we ran out the gates with a 3-2 start winning our first series against the San Diego Padres. Dan Haren pitched a solid opening day game but came out and struggled against the Pittsburgh Pirates today. Chad Qualls had a pretty impressive pitching performance against the Padres to get his first save of the year I am looking forward to more of that from him as the season progresses. Our bats have been there in the first week which has kept a smile on my face so far.
Kelly Johnson, Chris Young, and Justin Upton have started off swinging the bats well. They all have batting averages above .350 after the first week of play. Chris Young (.400 batting average) has a grand slam under his belt already as well. His grand slam the other night against the Pirates led to our most impressive win so far in this young season the ending score was 9-1.
One week in and we have showed that we can hit the ball with the best of them. 7 Homeruns in 5 games and a team batting average of .284 shows that we have been productive with the bats for the most part. I am ready for tomorrow’s game so we can continue our trend of bouncing back from losses. I love to see the Dbacks competing early in the season. The emotion they have showed so far has been tremendous I just hope while we wait for all the wrinkles to iron out we can get on a winning streak.
We are going for series win number 2 tomorrow afternoon. Good Luck Dbacks!!
