As the MLB Draft for First Year Players has been taking place over the past two days, you realize the importance of making your first round picks by just looking to the mound this evening in Washington. Washington Nationals rookie Stephen Strasburg, making his Major League debut, struck out 14 batters in seven innings and only gave up two earned runs and walked none in the process.
Strasburg struck out eight of the last nine batters he faced. His only mistake was a two-run homer to the Pittsburgh Pirates Delmon Young. He was all the hype leading up to his impressive debut.
So what are the chances the Arizona Diamondbacks have found a gem like that in Barrett Loux? One can only hope Loux is as impressive when he eventually makes his debut. Word is, that might not be as far off as one would think, one of the reasons why the Dbacks were high on him.
