Outstanding Pitching Leads to Second Consecutive Shutout

A nice pitchers dual at Chase Field tonight.  The Arizona Diamondbacks Joe Saunders won the battle over the Washington Nationals Livan Hernandez 2-0 in what was the second consecutive shutout for the Dbacks.  When the offense lacks, the pitching picks up.  That's what winning teams do.  A couple of weeks ago early in this string of wins, it was the other way around.

In what was probably the best game of Saunders short Dbacks career, he went 7 innings, only giving up 2 hits.  The past 5 or 6 starts, Saunders has been just good enough.  He was really good tonight.  On the other side Hernandez was good too, but a couple of mistakes did him in.

The bullpen came in and shut it down again.  David Hernandez and J.J. Putz finished off what Saunders started.  Overall only 4 hits for both teams on Saturday night.  Definitely there has been much better pitching than I expected from both teams in this series.  It is a rare event to see the Dbacks with consecutive shutouts.  Can they make it three in a row?  Another tough match up tomorrow.  The Dbacks send Ian Kennedy to the mound against the Nats Jason Marquis.  Both pitchers have 6 wins, so it should be a good one at 1:10.
