The Arizona Diamondbacks are finally getting the offensive weapon in Justin Upton they had hoped to get when he was drafted in the first round. Upton, who was the subject of trade rumors in the off-season, which seemed to be more of a ploy by the Dbacks to get Upton to perform better, has been very hot as of late.
Of course the biggest hit of this hot streak was last night in the walk-off homer in the 10th inning against the San Francisco Giants, giving the Dbacks a 3-2 victory. However, Upton has just been hitting with regularity since May. He is hitting .291 with 12 HR and 35 RBI. His average in the past 10 games has jumped from .268 to the current .291. Pretty good in my book. During that span Upton is 15-37. No complaints here.
Upton is back at it this evening with another 3 hits in 3 at-bat’s. He clearly is aiming for a spot on the All-Star roster. At this point, I say give it to him. If he keeps it up for the next couple of weeks, I see no reason why is kept off the reserves roster. It is now fun to watch Upton hit each and every time up. Sure, he still strikes out from time to time, but no longer does it seem like a competition to him to see who gets the most strikeouts in a season. He is maturing.
