The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to finish off their 6-game road trip with a series victory in Detroit on Sunday as Joe Saunders, 4-7, 4.35 ERA goes up against a former Dbacks in Brad Penny, 5-6, 4.80 ERA. A win would give the Dbacks a 5-1 trip and a second consecutive series win.
Saunders problems lately have been rooted early in the game. He gave up a first pitch home run to Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals last time out. Except for Gordon, he was pretty much a shutdown pitcher after that. Saunders has really worked to get his ERA down and it is very much a work in progress.
Penny, who the Dbacks traded when he was still regarded as a young prospect, has struggled a little bit this year as well. His ERA hovers just under 5, so I would look for the Dbacks to avoid a 2nd consecutive shutout.
