Send a couple down, get a couple back in return. That’s the way it usually works, right? The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned pitchers Esmerling Vasquez and Bryan Shaw to AAA Reno on Tuesday and recalled pitchers Yhency Brazoban and Alberto Castillo. The Dbacks are trying to spark the bullpen after recent letdowns.
This isn’t a blow-you-away move. This is more of a move where they can at least say they tried something. I’m not overly excited about the move of players up from Reno, but am glad to see the Dbacks finally saw the writing on Vasquez’s wall.
Brazoban’s stats: 1-1, 2.70 ERA. He has a had a couple of bad outings. His ERA has been 9 or above in 2 of his last 8 outings. Overall, the numbers show he deserves a shot.
Castillo’s stats: 1.50 ERA, 9 K in only 5 outings totaling 6 innings overall in Reno.
Vasquez’s ERA had dropped to 4.15 and really struggled as of late. He didn’t really pitch that well overall to be honest. His ERA would be higher, but he’s good at giving up other pitchers runs he inherited.
Shaw’s time was short lived as I expected it to be. He really never excited with his performances. Coincidentally his ERA was also 4.15,
