No Walk-off today. The Arizona Diamondbacks offensive struggles continued as did the struggles of pitcher Zach Duke, who is quickly proving every point the Pittsburgh Pirates tried to make by ridding themselves of Duke after last season. The Cleveland Indians came in and defeated the Dbacks 6-2 at Chase Field today behind four early runs.
Duke, who has been less than spectacular to say the least since his season debut against the Houston Astros in May, got roughed up early and never gave the Dbacks a chance to compete. By the time he left the game after five innings, he had given up 4 runs and 9 hits. Game set and match.
Only homers by Justin Upton and Stephen Drew go the Dbacks on the scoreboard today. Not the way the Dbacks wanted to leave town for the next two weeks. This was the Dbacks last home game until July 15th, after the All-Star break. Now the Dbacks head to the bay area to play the Oakland A’s for their final interleague series of the season. The Dbacks loss drops them to 9-6 overall against the American League.
