Drew Suffers Horrible Injury at Home Plate

The Arizona Diamondbacks have pretty much avoided the serious injury bug this season.  That all changed in a heartbeat this evening in a unsuccessful slide into home plate against the Milwaukee Brewers. Shortstop Stephen Drew suffered what appeared to be a very gruesome injury to his right ankle sliding into home plate.  He had to be carried off the field.

If the look of the injury is any indication, then Drew is done for the season.  It’s unfortunate and we can only hope for the best.  I imagine at this point Willie Bloomquist will take over the SS duties for now.  Now we can only hope Drew recovers in time for the 2012 season.

The Dbacks weren’t really in the market for a hitter that we knew of.  They would be better served by going out and getting a veteran hitter rather than calling up yet another minor leaguer.  If the Dbacks want to win now, they need to act like it.  Hopefully they don’t let this injury become an excuse to a downfall.  I don’t believe it will.  The 2010 team would have used it as an excuse.  Not this team.
