If usually reliable Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Daniel Hudson hadn’t struggled on Friday night, the Dbacks would be talking about a sweep of the Colorado Rockies and be only three games back of the San Francisco Giants. Instead, they lost on the same night the Giants did and the Giants have won the past two days while the Dbacks righted their ship and took two of three against the Rockies.
It was quite the offensive show the past two nights. All-Star Justin Upton has regained his hot streak he had prior to the break a couple of weeks ago. He went 4-4 on Sunday, a day after hitting a grand slam and knocking in six runs. Upton has his average at .301 after a hot weekend, one that saw the Dbacks win 12-3 on Saturday and 7-0 on Sunday.
You also have to hand it to the Dbacks pitching the past two nights. Josh Collmenter went seven strong on Saturday and Micah Owings went five strong on Sunday, along with Zach Duke‘s four really good relief innings on Sunday. If the Dbacks want to start Owings and end with Duke in that fifth position going forward, I’m all in. Go for it!
