Ryan Cook‘s stay in Phoenix with the Arizona Diamondbacks was short, but unfortunately predictable. A week ago, no one had heard of him. Now, he’s had 1 inning of work (well, about 5 innings worth condensed into 3 outs) and has been jettisoned to AAA Reno to make room for J.J. Putz, who will come off the disabled list.
Cook looked like a deer caught in the headlights with his first outing when he failed to record a single out. He gave up 3 runs, 3 hits, 1 walk, 1 balk, and a wild pitch in his first inning. He gave up another run in his second outing. His ERA is at 36.00.
Depending how he does in August he could be back in September but I really wouldn’t count on seeing him again till at least spring. Who knows? We’ll see. Baseball is a funny game. As for Putz, welcome back!
