It was the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was Ted Lilly. Josh Collmenter was on the bump. The San Francisco Giants had lost to the Cincinnati Reds. It was the perfect storm for a great night. Unfortunately Matt Kemp Happened. Unfortunately the Arizona Diamondbacks take their bullpen with them everywhere they go. It all ended with a 9-5 Dbacks loss Friday night.
You look at the score and you say, getting rolled? Well, if anyone watched the game, they did. The only real offense was the three solo shots by Willie Bloomquist, Ryan Roberts, and Justin Upton. Everytime the grew closer to the Dodgers though, they would pull away more.
Ted Lilly didn’t pitch all that great, in fact only went five innings. However the Dbacks let him off the hook. The offense disappeared and then the bullpen couldn’t help correct what Collmenter started. Sam Demel, who in my opinion is overrated, and Alberto Castillo both got touched for runs as the Dbacks tried to stay in the game after Collmenter’s departure.
In the meantime, the Dbacks gain no ground on the Giants when they had the chance and they continue to sit and do nothing while the Giants and Philadelphia Phillies continue to make moves to better themselves for a run to the playoffs.
