Dbacks Avoid Sweep Against Dodgers

Another day of little offense, however that was expected against Los Angeles Dodgers Clayton Kershaw.  The Arizona Diamondbacks managed five hits, but two of them none bigger than the first inning home run by Kelly Johnson and the seventh inning homer by Cody Ransom.  Both hit two run shots that gave the Dbacks a 4-3 victory on Sunday aftenroon.

The Dbacks were shut down for the most part by Kershaw, however he struggled with his control early, helping his pitch count grow early.  he ended up pitching 6.2 innings and 113 pitches.  His four earned runs given up were the most he had given up all season to the Dbacks.  This was his third start against the Dbacks and hadn’t given up an earned run in the previous two starts, although he had given up four runs overall.

As for the Dbacks, starter Ian Kennedy won his 14th game of the season.  He made a couple of mistakes and fell behind in the sixth inning but the offense came through when needed today to secure the victory.

The Dbacks now await the Houston Astros for a four game set starting tomorrow night.  They will enter the evening still a half-game behind the San Francisco Giants, as they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 today.
