You can thank the San Francisco Giants for keeping the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West Pennant Race. You can thank the Los Angeles Dodgers from keeping them from taking a 2.5 game lead and starting to create separation between themselves and the 2-8 Post-Carlos Beltran trade Giants. The Dbacks will get a shot today to salvage one game of this series before moving back to games outside the division.
The first two games the Dbacks have missed decent starting pitching, timely hitting, well, hitting all together, and have seemed to have lost that swagger the team picked up in San Francisco. Regardless of what the Giants have done, the Dbacks have to be disappointed right now. They may not get a better chance all season to take control of the division.
Today might not get much better as the Dodgers send Clayton Kershaw to the mound. He is 13-4 and has pretty much shut down the Dbacks over his career. Sure, the Dbacks Ian Kennedy is 13-3, however he has no control over how the rest of the Dbacks bat against Kershaw. He is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA against the Dbacks this season. He has given up four runs in 14 innings, but all were un-earned. The Dbacks are hitting just .163 against him this season. Not exactly a recipe for success.
