When the Arizona Diamondbacks traded Kelly Johnson last week to the Toronto Blue Jays for Aaron Hill and John McDonald, I admit, I wondered why? The numbers, except for the batting average for Johnson were better. The average was only about 10 points better. Hill was hitting .225 for the Blue Jays. Since coming over to the National League? He’s hitting .371 through three at-bats this evening. I’ll take that everyday.
Tonight alone, Hill has a two-out double that helped the Dbacks get an add-on run in the sixth inning. It was huge at the time. He has also flashed the glove tonight and in other games. I think Hill is becoming very comfortable in his new surroundings. He is another guy the Dbacks felt like would flourish with new scenery. He’s done just that to this point.
I can’t wait to see what he can do for the Dbacks down the stretch over these next few weeks and hopefully into the playoffs. I’m excited not only that he brought his bat but his glove too. Let’s not forget the additions he brings to both sides of the ball. Here’s hoping for a special September from Hill.
