It’s been a rough few days. The San Francisco Giants have not gone quietly. They’ve won eight in a row including today. However, the Arizona Diamondbacks did their part finally today in moving that magic number with a 5-1 win over the San Diego Padres. The magic number is now five games. They are also done on the road for the 2011 season. All nine games remaining are at home, starting tomorrow night against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Dbacks can thank Joe Saunders and Paul Goldschmidt for today’s trek back to their winning ways. Saunders went 8.2 innings to go 12-12. Goldie had a homer and three RBI. With the way things had been going for Goldie as of late, it was nice to see him come through when the Dbacks really needed it the most.
Now, the Dbacks come home, with the earliest possible date they can clinch is now Wednesday night. The Giants are off on Monday and then face the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday night in LA. Most likely, if a clinch is coming soon, it will come against non other than the Giants themselves next weekend. Let’s hope.
