Then the magic number was reduced to the number 1, as in one game. One Arizona Diamondbacks win, one San Francisco Giants loss, whatever it takes, it will be all over. Of course both can happen tonight as the Dbacks host the Giants in the start of a three-game set at Chase Field. The Dbacks can clinch the National League West as early as tonight.
The only way the Dbacks can’t win the division now is by losing all six remaining games and then losing a tie-breaker at the end of the season. It won’t come down to that though. I won’t say it will end tonight, because a Giants win tonight keeps them alive, but the Dbacks just need to pour it on tonight and get it over with.
There will be no panic if the Giants win tonight though. Ian Kennedy has been moved up a day from Sunday to Saturday to face Matt Cain. I predict this thing is wrapped up tonight and if not by tomorrow night. That doesn’t mean the Dbacks should let up if they do win tonight though. They need to take some momentum heading into the playoffs. They’ll need every bit of it.
