Breaking Down Dbacks Playoff Possibilities

There has been a lot of info on the net today about who the Arizona Diamondbacks could or could not play in the National League Division Series.  One item that I’ve seen mis-reported in several places, including ESPN, is that the Dbacks can not play the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS.  Can’t happen.  It’s amazing how much I’ve seen that listed as a possibility.  You’d think people know?  Anyway, here are the possibilities:

If Arizona wins and the Milwaukee Brewers lose:

Arizona gets home field as the #2 seed and will face the Brewers (if the Cards win the wildcard)

Arizona gets home field as the #2 seed and will face the Atlanta Braves (if the Braves win the wildcard)

If Arizona wins and the Brewers win:

Milwaukee wins home field as the #2 seed and the Dbacks will go to Milwaukee (if the Cards win the wildcard)

Milwaukee wins home field as the #2 seed and the Dbacks will go play the Philadelphia Phillies in Philly (if the Braves win the wildcard)

If both teams lose:

Same scenarios as above if Arizona wins and Brewers win
