So the mourning period for the Arizona Diamondbacks 2011 season is over. Ok, so we haven’t finished this postseason yet, however for the Dbacks it is never too early to start looking ahead to 2012, especially since the season starts in like 18 seconds. It’s a short off-season. We are only four months till pitchers and catchers report. So it is time to review the current roster, look at what they did in 2011 and what the prospects are for 2012. First up: Ian Kennedy
2011 review: You have to start with the ace of the rotation, Kennedy. A Cy Young Award candidate with his 21 victories and 2.88 ERA, Kennedy was every bit the definition of “ace” this past season. You knew it was going to be a special season when he came out and shutout the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0 back in April, working on almost no rest after the birth of this first child. From there, he was on cruise control.
2012 preview: There is no reason to believe we will not see more of the same next season. Honestly, I see him actually improving. As amazing as his season was, there is room for improvement. He had a tendency to lose command from time to time and it meant that he was giving up home runs. He certainly gave up his share this past season. I don’t expect a drastic change though from what got him through 2011.
