So the mourning period for the Arizona Diamondbacks 2011 season is over. The postseason is finally over as well and now it is time to start looking ahead to 2012, especially since the season starts in like 18 seconds. It’s a short off-season. We are just shy of four months till pitchers and catchers report. So it is time to review the current roster, look at what they did in 2011 and what the prospects are for 2012. Next up: J.J. Putz
2011 review: I don’t think even the Dbacks knew what they were getting in Putz when they signed him in the off-season. Clearly they were going to give him the closer’s spot however I don’t think anyone expected Putz to be the valuable commodity he turned out to be. He ended up with 45 saves in 49 opportunities. He sported a 2.17 ERA to go with that. Clearly the Dbacks made the right move. He did go through an injury bug early on, which he has been known for in the past, however he got through it and was there for the Dbacks in the end when it counted the most.
2012 preview: He will be the man again in 2012 no doubt. It will be hard to top what he did in 2011, however if he is able to stay healthy, there is no reason we can’t see a repeat of 2011.
