Silver Slugger came calling today and two Arizona Diamondbacks players found themselves with some hardware. Dbacks right fielder Justin Upton and pitcher Daniel Hudson won Silver Slugger Awards today for their respective positions. Well deserved on both ends. It is the first Silver Slugger for both players.
Upton hit .289 with 31 home runs and 89 RBI. For awhile Upton was hitting over .300 and was on pace for at least 35-40 home runs and 100 RBI, however he tailed off a little in September. He was still good enough to win the award in right field. As for Hudson, he was just simply amazing given his position.
Hudson hit .277 with one home run and 14 RBI, tops in average and RBI for all MLB pitchers. To me, what was even more impressive, was his .389 average with runners in scoring position. That is someone who is all about helping himself out. His hitting dug him out of some early holes this season. Upton and Hudson join Micah Owings and Luis Gonzalez as the only other Dbacks to ever win the award.
