Turn About, Bloomquist Returns to Dbacks

Just as I was writing off the possibility of utilityman Willie Bloomquist returning to the Arizona Diamondbacks the other day, he goes and signs a new two-year contract with the Diamondbacks today.  Color me as one of the very surprised ones, given his agent, given the other contracts, given Aaron Hill‘s situation, given the fact he turned down his option to explore options with other teams.  Apparently no one stepped forward to give him what the Dbacks could.  I am happy to have him back.  I just hope it was not at the expense of someone else.

Bloomquist as we know started out hot, got injured, played admirably in the absence of shortstop Stephen Drew in 2011.  He did disappear for a bit, but turned that early season charm back on for the playoffs.  That may have been the deciding factor.  He should be a valuable member of the bench in 2012.

He is a fan favorite and he should be.  He plays the game hard and always gives 100 percent.  When he isn’t playing he is always into the game on the bench.  Those are the types of players you need on your roster.  I’m glad the Dbacks realized that.
