Apparently the Arizona Diamondbacks have three of the top 21 players in the National League. Justin Upton was the best of them. He finished fourth in the NL MVP voting today. He’s not the only Arizona Diamondback to get votes in the MVP voting though. Surprisingly enough, there were two more guys who got votes. Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun won the NL MVP.
Pitcher Ian Kennedy, who finished fourth in the NL Cy Young Voting, and catcher Miguel Montero, both received votes. Kennedy finished 14th and Montero 21st. Pretty impressive. What is interesting though is how the rest of the balloting panned out. I’m a little surprised Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp finished second. I thought he would win as close to the triple crown he got.
Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, who won the NL Cy Young over Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee, actually finished behind them in the MVP voting. It’s all subjective. It just comes down to the opinions of writers. I love having opinions and love making my own picks, but I think baseball should control who does and doesn’t win.
