Arizona Diamondbacks 2012: A Look at the Starting Rotation

With the 2012 season just about 2 1/2 months from kicking off with pitchers and catchers, it is time to take a look at how the Arizona Diamondbacks stack up by position.  Naturally, I start with the starting pitching rotation, which could be even stronger in 2012 than it was in 2011.  Here’s my take on how things play out going into next season.

Definite starters: Ian Kennedy, Daniel Hudson

In the mix: Joe Saunders, Josh Collmenter, Jarrod Parker, Trevor Bauer, Wade Miley

Long shots: Tyler Skaggs, Micah Owings, Zach Kroenke, Barry Enright

Free agent possibilities: Roy Oswalt

We know Kennedy will be the number one and Hudson the number two.  After that, it is still all a guessing game.  The Saunders situation is still in doubt.  Who knows what the Dbacks plans are with him?  Roy Oswalt has been rumored to be a possibility for the Dbacks.  I think he is only up for consideration though if they decide against Saunders.  Good bet the fifth guy in the rotation will be a fight between Parker and Bauer.  That’s just my opinion though.

I could never have guessed Collmenter would be in the rotation before last season started.  Most people didn’t know about him, myself included.  So, these are just my guesses for now.  We’ll see what happens.
