Arizona Diamondbacks 2012: A Look at Third Base

With the 2012 season just about 2 1/2 months from kicking off with pitchers and catchers, it is time to take a look at how the Arizona Diamondbacks stack up by position.  Next I look at third base, which seems set as of right now, however there are rumors the Dbacks could be looking for a bat.  That bat may end up being a third baseman.

Starter possibilities: Ryan Roberts, Geoff Blum

In play: Free agent to be determined or player via trade

Roberts is the guy right now, coming off his .249, 19 HR, 65 RBI season.  The batting average does lend itself to letting the Dbacks possibly looking to replace Roberts as a starter.  If they find another third baseman in free agency, Roberts probably returns to his utility role.  If they find a third baseman via tradE. Roberts or Blum could be involved in the trade.  I think it would be difficult to get rid of Roberts though given the fan favorite he is.  The incoming guy would have to be a huge splash.  Personally I hope Roberts is a Dback for a long time.
