Arizona Diamondbacks Fall League Review: Ryan Wheeler

The 2011 Arizona Fall League season has now ended, so it is now time to review just how the Arizona Diamondbacks organizational participants performed.  Next up, we look at Ryan Wheeler, third baseman.  The 6’4 righty thrower, lefty hitter is from Loyola Marymount.  His current team is Mobile. Let’s take a look at how Wheeler did in this season’s league.

Stats: .292, 0 HR, 14 RBI

Review: He had 31 hits in 106 at-bats during the league season.  Not too bad.  Included in his 31 hits were nine doubles.  It is a little concerning to see the 24 strikeouts.  That’s almost one in every four at-bats.  Not quite Mark Reynolds bad, but not that great either.

Outlook:  We will have to keep tabs on Wheeler.  The Dbacks aren’t necessarily set at third base, so Wheeler is fortunate.  He won’t be in a Dback uniform immediately, but I could see a shot in the next year or two to show what he has to offer.
