D-Backs jump up to #3 in ESPN Power Rankings

Thanks to a sweep of the rival San Francisco Giants, the Arizona Diamondbacks have moved up four spots in the ESPN weekly power ranks of all 30 MLB teams.

The Diamondbacks opened at #7 in last week’s power rankings and moved up four spots after three tightly contested victories in the opening series.  The D-Backs are the top National League team in the rankings and are behind only the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays, overall, who had impressive series in sweeps of the well-publicized Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, respectively.  ESPN did express concern, however, in the 12 runs in 16.1 innings that D-Backs starters allowed in the series–nearly half of that came from already struggling starter Josh Collmenter as Ian Kennedy and Daniel Hudson eached pitched adequately in their starts.
