D’Backs give Berthiaume, Brenly keys to the pressbox

The Arizona Diamondbacks revealed on Thursday that Bob Brenly and Steve Berthiaume will get the nod to call games on the television side of things. Daron Sutton and Mark Grace had previously called the games for the team but Gracie’s contract had expired and Suton was not asked to return. The new tandem of Bob and Steve will officially be introduced in early November.
Both Grace and Suton have worked national t.v. coverage of FOX Saturday Baseball but are known more for their work on FS Arizona. Although some off-the-field issues surfaced surrounding Mark Grace this year, they didn’t seem to play a role in the broadcast switch-up.
Brenly, who is ever popular in the Arizona community returns to the desert after an eight year stint with Comcast Sports Net Chicago and WGN, where he broadcasted Cubs games with Len Kasper. Brenly worked with the D’Backs from ’98-’00 as a TV analyst and managed the team in 2001. That was a good year in Arizona, right? Steve Berthiaume is no rookie behind the microphone either. The energetic, knowledgeable broadcaster heads to Phoenix from ESPN, where he spent the last six years hosting Baseball Tonight and calling NCAA baseball games. D’Backs are sure to love this duo in the booth not only due to their great personalities but they are both class act guys.

Berthiaume spent the last 12 years with ESPN. Well played, Mauer.
