The Arizona Diamondbacks were involved in a couple of transactions recently. Right-handed reliever Chaz Roe was claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers while the D’backs claimed outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo off waivers from the Detroit Tigers. The story was published by foxsportsarizona.com.
Roe appeared in 21 games for the D’backs going 1-0 with a 4.03 ERA. In 22 1/3 innings pitched, he allowed 10 earned runs on 18 hits while walking 13 and striking out 24. Roe, a 2005 first round draft pick by the Colorado Rockies, signed with Arizona in September 2012 after spending a year in the Seattle Mariners organization.
Tuiasosopo was originally selected by the Mariners in the third round of the 2004 draft. He stayed with the M’s until he signed with the New York Mets’ organization prior to the 2012 season. Tuiasosopo then spent 2013 in Detroit where he received 164 at-bats with the Tigers primarily as an outfielder/first baseman/pinch hitter. He hit seven home runs and drove in 30 with a slash line of .244/.315/.415.
