The Arizona Diamondbacks made another acquisition today, this time locking up one of their own free agents. Eric Chavez has been re-signed by the D’backs according to a tweet by Jon Heyman at CBS Sports. Terms were not disclosed but it is believed to be a one year deal.
Chavez appeared in 80 games last season for the D’backs and accumulated 228 at bats. He was extremely productive when given playing time, swatting nine home runs with 44 RBI’s along with a slash line of .281/.332/.478. A six-time Gold Glover, Chavvy played his usual stellar defense at third base and contributed numerous key pinch hits.
Bringing back Chavez into the fold allows GM Kevin Towers and company to focus on their next big priority: a big-time starting pitcher.
