D'backs Sign Shelly Duncan to a Minor League Contract

The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed OF/1B Shelley Duncan to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America. Duncan went 10 for 55 and hit two home runs with the Tampa Bay Rays last season while also hitting .215/.287/.382 with 11 home runs and 54 RBI in 335 at-bats with Triple-A Durham. The 34-year old is now in the same organization as his dad Dave Duncan who was added as a pitching coach and adviser this offseason. The official terms of the contract have not been released. D’backs GM Kevin Towers has been looking for a bat off the bench who can provide some pop and  Duncan can provide that. Not sure if that will be his role, but I don’t think Arizona would sign him just so he can sit in the minors. Let me know if you think Duncan has a place on the D’backs roster in 2014.
