This coming Wednesday is the first Spring Training game for the Arizona Diamondbacks. According to Steve Gilbert at mlb.com, the guy who will be taking the ball first will be Brandon McCarthy. Game time will be 1:10 MST at Salt River Fields against the Los Angeles Dodgers. McCarthy will oppose Clayton Kershaw, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner and owner of a brand new seven year, $215 million dollar contract. There is no word yet on who will follow McCarthy after he exits the game after a couple of innings of work.
Manager Kirk Gibson also announced that Bronson Arroyo and Randall Delgado will get the starts when the D’backs play split squad games on Thursday. Delgado will face LA in Glendale while Arroyo will face the Chicago Cubs in Mesa. Nothing has been said about which pitchers will start the opening two game series in Australia. Regardless, for the first time in over four months, we have an actual pitching line instead of a TBD.
