We are less than a month away from the opening series in Australia and Zack Greinke is not happy about making the trip. The pitcher from the Los Angeles Dodgers had this to say when asked how he felt about making the long journey:
“I would say there is absolutely zero excitement for it. There just isn’t any excitement to it,” Greinke told ESPNLosAngeles.com. “I can’t think of one reason to be excited for it.”
To be fair, it seems most of the other Dodgers’ players look forward to playing Down Under. However, Greinke’s quote probably has Arizona Diamondbacks’ manager Kirk Gibson chuckling. Remember when Gibby said this?
“We had Goldy go down there, along with Patrick Corbin and Derrick Hall, our president and CEO. Who’s the other team got down there? Are they too (expletive) good? Honestly?”
The D’backs have had fun with their impending journey. Brad Ziegler has a short video in preparation for the trip and MLBSydney is advertising the following: “Win a Date with Heart Throb Josh Collmenter“. Ex-D’back Dan Haren looks forward to going but would be disappointed if he does not pitch.
The truth is, Greinke is probably expressing some feelings that a handful of players and many fans have. He also seems to understand that the series is about promoting the game of baseball worldwide. However, he should look on the bright side and be thankful he has the opportunity to so something only a select few of us could do in our lifetimes.
