A lot of us only know Turner Ward for being awesome and beating up J.P. Howell, but there is more to T.W. than that.
I was watching the game yesterday against Cleveland and Fox Sports Arizona had Turner on during the 7th inning or something like that. During the interview I thought to myself, “man, this guy knows what he is talking about.” I understand that a professional hitting coach should should know his stuff, but I really like the way Ward is running the team.
Turner admitted that the workload since being promoted was somewhat daunting, but also exciting. There are coaching switch ups all throughout the Diamondbacks organization but I feel like Turner Ward is a smart option. No disrespect to Don Baylor, but the dude was old school through and through. Ward is a fresh face that allows hitters to be hitters. Turner had mentioned in his interview that he has been surrounded by such great assistants this spring to help facilitate the process a little better.
Rest easy, Diamondbacks fans. T.W. knows his stuff and his knowledge and experience will aid this already potentiality frightening offensive roster. I don’t know if anybody has noticed this in watching the spring games, but the coaching staff looks to be meshing well together. That’s not to say the guys last year hated each other, but something is different in the dugout. Maybe that’s just my biased viewpoint and positivity about the team coming through, though.
On a side note, spring is another chance for me to continue my love affair with MLB.TV. I can sit in American Studies class and watch the game today. Does it get better than that? Yes, it does, but just play along….
See ya in Australia!
