In another move that signifies the roles are being finalized for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team waived Matt Tuiasosopo yesterday. He was competing for a spot in the D’backs’ outfield. Later in the day, the Toronto Blue Jays announced that they had claimed the versatile Tuiasosopo off waivers, according to nbcsports.com.
The 27-year old Tuiasosopo received 34 at-bats in 16 games for the D’backs during Spring Training. He had six RBI’s but he also struck out 14 times. His slash line was .118/.205/.147 with only one extra base hit. Tuiasosopo was competing with Tony Campana for a fifth outfielder’s spot on the roster. Although Campana didn’t fare much better (..216/.293/.216), his tremendous speed serves as a weapon late in tight ballgames.
We wish Matt Tuiasosopo all the best as he tries to stick with the Blue Jays.
