The Triple A Reno Aces began their season last night just like their parent team the Arizona Diamondbacks did. Reno was defeated by the El Paso Chihuahuas, the Triple A team of the San Diego Padres, 7-5 at Aces Ballpark. Of great interest to D’backs’ fans desperately searching for good news, outfielder Cody Ross played five innings in left field in this contest. He batted third and collected two singles, one of them driving in a run. Ross is expected to remain with Reno through their weekend series.
Other notable names from last night’s game included Nick Ahmed who went 1 for 4 with a ninth inning double and Didi Gregorius who went 0 for 4. Didi played the entire game at second base and will be see more time at the position during his time with the Aces. After Ross left, Alfredo Marte took over in left and he also went 2 for 2 with a run scored. Ender Inciarte, who some on Twitter wanted to see called up and have him play instead of A.J. Pollock, led off and played center. He went 2 for 5with an RBI but also struck out three times.
Here is hoping that Ross can play all nine innings of at least one of these games this weekend so he can join the team Monday in San Francisco.
