Diamondbacks-Rockies Game 2 Preview

The Arizona Diamondbacks have to win a game at some point right? After getting embarrassed in game 1 of the series against the Colorado Rockies, the D’backs will look to rebound and win their second game of the season. At some point this team has got to stop using the its a long season excuse and actually win games. In order to do that, Brandon McCarthy and the bullpen will have to slow down the Rockies offense, a sure fire challenge for an already taxed pitching staff.

What: Diamondbacks@Rockies

When: 5:10pm

Where: Coors Field

TV/Radio: FSAZ/KTAR-FM (98.7), KTAR-AM (620)

Matchup: RHP Brandon McCarthy (0-0, 6.75 era) vs. LHP Jorge De La Rosa (0-1, 10.38 era)

Need to Know: Brandon McCarthy makes his second start of 2014 after allowing 5 runs in six and two thirds innings against the Giants in the home opener. While the box score might tell a different story, McCarthy actually pitched really well running his fastball up to 94 mph and commanding all of his pitches while throwing a ton of strikes. What impressed me the most was how well he commanded his curveball. He’ll have to do that again today against a very tough Rockies lineup…McCarthy is a Colorado native. In 18 innings against his home town team, he gave up 12 runs on 28 hits(6.00 ERA)…Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa stared on Opening Day and gave up 5 runs in 4 and a third innings against the Marlins…He owns a 2.40 career ERA against Arizona, posting a 2.38 ERA in four starts against the Snakes last season.
