Days like today become must-see or must-watch if you are a fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Archie Bradley makes his third start of the season for Triple A Reno tonight. Short of a complete game shutout, the most noise coming from Bradley this week was not by the player himself, but his agent. As our own Joe Jacquez documented, Jay Franklin is not too happy that his client is not with the Snakes right now:
”Archie Bradley has proven to the Diamondbacks organization that he has deserved that opportunity by keeping his mouth shut and letting his numbers speak for his chance to pitch in the major leagues.”
As much as we want to see the D’backs’ top prospect pitch in Arizona in 2014, he has not demonstrated the ability to be consistent. His first start for Reno was nice, but hardly dominant. He did not allow a run over five innings but he did surender four hits and two walks. Bradley’s second start was much better despite giving up two runs and taking the loss. He allowed only three hits, two of which were flukey doubles to consecutive batters while walking two and striking out five over seven innings. Two solid Triple A starts should not mean an automatic ticket to the Major Leagues. Give him four to five starts with the Aces and if he has shown the ability to harness his command, then by all means, bring him up. The term “highly-rated” does not mean “highly-ready”.
Game time is 6:35 PM MST against the Las Vegas 51’s. Las Vegas is the Triple A club of the New York Mets, the team who is currently pounding the D’backs. Let’s hope Bradley could gain a small measure of revenge.
