Here was a game the Arizona Diamondbacks thought they should have won. They had Wade Miley set to pitch against the Colorado Rockies, a team he was 7-0 against. As with everything else in this 2014, the script was changed as the Rockies beat up Miley for seven runs in six innings winning the first game of the three game set by a score of 8-5. The loss dropped the D’backs to 8-21, 13 games under .500 for the second time this season.
In the early part of this game, the teams went shot for shot. The D’backs were able to get to Colorado’s Franklin Morales just as the Rockies got to Miley. Gerardo Parra hit a solo home run in the second inning while Aaron Hill added an RBI single, Paul Goldschmidt an RBI ground out and Miguel Montero a sacrifice fly to knot the game at 4 going into the sixth inning. The end came when Troy Tulowitzki led off the frame with a solo home run and later in the inning Justin Morneau hit a two run shot and just like that it was 7-4, effectively ending the contest. Tulo whad a great night at the plate with two doubles, a home run and two walks. He drove in a total of three runs. For the D’backs, Martin Prado went 2 for 3 on the night and scored three of the team’s runs while Goldy enjoyed another fruitful day at the plate going 3 for 4. It was all for naught as the Snakes are now 2-12 at Chase Field.
